Power, Injustice and Discrimination Erupt in “The Tribunal”

There’s something really special about the recently released trailer for Kunle Afolayan’s latest movie “The Tribunal”.

A few seconds into the trailer, and you can tell that “The Tribunal” presents a compelling court room drama; with strong themes of power, injustice, discrimination,  addiction, and loss. Add that the array of talented actors, Afolayan has chosen to work with on this one and you have a good movie. Norbert Young and Bimbo Manuel look like they’re having way too much fun with this court case, at some point in the trailer, “Nobert Young” even chants “Oyibo Pepper”, a Yoruba/Nigerian fun word of endearment used to refer to those perceived differently because of their skin colour.

You can’t also help but notice that Omotola is a meanie in this one and Funsho Adeolu, a pathetic drunk and brilliant attorney; let’s also not forget Ade Laoye who appears quite enthusiastic and passionate about getting justice for her friend.

“The Tribunal”  is a collaboration between African Magic films and Kunle Afolayan’s Golden Effects Pictures, the movie which stars Bimbo Manuel, Nobert Young, Omotola Jalade Ekeinde, Carol King, Funsho Adeolu, Ade Laoye, and Damilola Ogunsi, will hit cinemas on July 28, 2017.

  1. And every time I watch the trailer I keep getting reminded of The Verdict starring Paul Newman… maybe it’s the brilliant but alcoholic lawyer seeking redemption theme.

    1. @ Simon, right. I guess that’s the the theme Kunle is going with. It has some similarities with the Verdict. I’d be interested to see how a Nigerian court room drama plays out.
