UG Okore has been named the winner of the April 2018 Acting Monologue Challenge organized by Auditions.ng, Nollywood’s casting agency and largest auditions listing.
The monthly challenge which kicked off in March 2018 was launched to empower a new generation of talents for the industry through the Auditions.ng platform.
In this interview, UG Okore discusses her journey, ambitions, and plans for the Nigeria film industry and beyond.
Tell us your full name and a little about you:
My name is UG Okore. I am from Abia State, born into a family of six. I am an upcoming actress, screenwriter, and a go-getter aspiring to become a Nollywood legend. I want to be able to inspire and connect with people with my skills.
When did you start acting?
I started acting about four years ago (2014). That was the year I joined the Royal Arts Academy.
What productions have you appeared in and what roles did you play?
I have featured in productions like Tinsel where I played the role of a wedding planner, Royal Arts Academy (Matron), Seven Series (office staff), Kester Nsirim’s Production (Police officer), Squatterz (bride’s friend), Ama Psalmist’s Gana Street League (Mother) amongst others.
Why do you think people voted for your entry for the Auditions.ng Acting Monologue Challenge?
I think my monologue received the most number of votes because it was believable. People were able to connect with my character. Some even mentioned how they almost forgot I was interpreting a script.
Who is (are) your greatest acting heroes?
My heroes in the industry are Richard Mofe Damijo, Ireti Doyle, and Nse Ikpe Etim.
You have such great talent! Can you share your tricks for getting into character?
For me, once I study the script and get into character, I immediately adjust into the role. It has become so natural for me. Once you are doing something you love, it becomes effortless.
What directors or productions would you like to work in the near future?
I hope to work with Kunle Afolayan, Mary Remmy Njoku, Uche Jumbo, a feature on Ebony Live TV. In Hollywood, I would love to work with Tyler Perry.
Any words of advice for the next Auditions.ng Acting Monologue Challenge Contestants?
My advice to the next set of contestants is to try their best to stay in character and I wish them good luck.
